It’s one of my favorite songs (or tracks as we call them) from the hundreds we instructors have for the weightlifting format we teach called Body Pump.
So what’s the “one step away?”
It’s you.
The person you really want to see in the mirror.
The person who wants to prove yourself right, about you.
To prove to yourself that you ARE someone special.
That you DO deserve bigger and better.
To actually live, breathe and expect bigger things to happen to you and for you because of you because of the belief in you.
One step away, and then another, and then another, until you reach the goal. And when that goal is reached, there’s another one waiting.
It’s waiting patiently, for you, to come and meet it, smile, give it a big hug and thrive in the sheer joy of reaching it
And then off to the next goal because it too is just one step away.
Another step leads to another and again here we are at the next goal jumping up and down, screaming at the top of our lungs, and tears of joy streaming down our faces.
Because you took one step.
Each step you take creates the avenue for tweaking, change and failures….and failures are simply the knowledge of how not to do it next time, to take another step in a different direction, and mold what you want as you go.

Huh?
Yeah you know, that thing you constantly think, think, think about, wish upon a star about, hope it comes around, think some more about it, and then some more……
And then it fizzles and dies and then the “thought” process repeats……
Think, think, think, wish, hope, think, think, think. Fizzle.
You can’t get any project off the ground by thought alone, right?
What do you think would have happened if Oprah sat on her thoughts of “one day” becoming a talk show host, multi-GO-zillionare?
Or if Larry Page and Sergey Brin had sat on their thoughts of creating Google?
What if your infant (by the way babies have an AWESOME amount of ‘do’ power), only thought of standing and walking while continued to crawl forever?
These examples above have one thing in common: they WERE thoughts of course but…..
ACTION followed.
With action you get more creation, more adapting, more tweaking, more goal-setting, more failures and more opportunities that present themselves to define, refine, and re-do until you are happy with the result.

Do you think Oprah got it “right” in her early years?

And your infants-did they end up walking? Yes they did and why?

So today I was training clients and we, (including me) went on a run-why? The simple is this: they didn’t believe they could do it. My heart knew better.

There are beliefs that we create by telling what is called, a story.
A “story” could go something like “I can’t…………” or, “What if I ……….” Or, “I just know I can’t………..” How about, “I can’t believe this is happening to me AGAIN!” Or, “I’ll never be able to do that.” And, “back to the grind, how else am I gonna make the cha-ching.” And what about, “nobody loves me, why am I still single at 47 years old, what is wrong with me?”
Pretty real huh?
It’s real only if you feed those thoughts with more of them. This is a story.

“Annette are you kidding I can’t run that far, and if you’re running now I gotta keep up with you? ”
STORY!!
When people train with me they get to deconstruct their current story that keeps them on a “less than” mindset, and reconstruct a new one- -from the bottom up –making their foundation so definitely reinforced and sure with belief in themselves there is NO question to what they can actually do and accomplish.
And then it translates into life, not just training.

But this is why I have a job, which I don’t consider a job at all.
We all have gifts, and one of mine truly is a gift.
I can see the potential in a person and draw it out.
This is why my job isn’t a job, it’s a reward to me and I get to open gifts everyday by being witness to the true blue, honest-to-goodness accomplishments of the heroes I have the privilege of working with.
“OMG I wonder if I’m going to finish?” “Oh good, I’m running by myself cause I’ve been sick and don’t wanna run outside. SIGH, FINE. I got this, what am I doing, Annette?”“Oh god I hope I don’t give up, I always give up. How much longer do we have to go? “How does that girl run so fast?” “I’ll never be able to keep up with her.” “Annette said keep a pace that’s comfortable. If I do that, I’ll be last.”“OMG I don’t wanna walk but Annette said I could……sigh, no I can’t stop! But I’m gonna,” as she gasped to the rest of the group, “I’m sorry!!” “Oh no, they’re doubling back just for me cause I’m walking, now I feel like an ass!” “My lungs hurt.” “My ankle is just gonna have to suck it up. Good thing I’m wearing my wrap.”
STORIES.

“OMG I wonder if I’m going to finish?” That was Adina. I shared with Adina that she has the choice to put herself in a new “bracket.” The one that says “Yes, I AM an athlete; there is no doubt that I can handle this and whatever is thrown at me.” After the run guess what her new story was? “I felt invincible knowing that I accomplished something that I fear. I told myself that I am now gonna start running for real.”
Whoa.
“OMG I don’t wanna walk but Annette said I could……sigh, no I can’t stop! But I’m gonna,” as she gasped to the rest of the group, “I’m sorry!!” “Oh no, they’re doubling back just for me cause I’m walking, now I feel like such a disappointment!” That was Cara. I kept telling the group ahead to slow down & turn around and come back. This was a support mission for Cara. By NO stretch was Cara “done,” she needed a breather. We all flanked her until she was ready again. Her story after the run, “I felt relief and excited to know I finished. I kept telling myself I could do this to keep going, you are almost done. Now I say ‘bring it’ because the more you do something the better you get at it!”
Hello!!
“Oh good, I’m running by myself cause I’ve been sick and don’t wanna run outside. SIGH, FINE. I got this, what am I doing, Annette?” That was Andrea who got pummeled over Thanksgiving Day weekend by a chest cold. She came back today and wanted to work out, but running outside would have aggravated her lungs (in fact, running period would aggravate her lungs), but she decided to get some work done. I gave her a walking protocol on the treadmill and kept her inside. Her story after her indoor, by herself walk, “I was pleased. For me, the way I have been feeling this morning, I was thrilled! I was really excited for the others. That was GREAT!”
Awww yeah!
“Oh god I hope I don’t give up, I always give up. How much longer do we have to go? How does that girl run so fast? I’ll never be able to keep up with her.” That was Jenn. Guess what happened? She said, “Adina motivated me by being in front…it felt good. I kept my same pace and was able to catch up. And her story after we finished, “I felt fantastic…another accomplishment down. Whoo hoo! HELLS YAH I’d do it again!”
BOOYAH!!
It always has been.
Yes this is a deliberate invitation to treat yourselves to the magic, the motivation, the inspiration and the measureable accomplishments to stack in your being. You can draw from that account where there’s never a shortage ….all because you choose a different story.
It’s Christmas.

Well in sharing with people about it, there’s a consistent hesitation that people have about engaging in 5 days that can literally change your life for you.
So I asked why the hesitation, and here’s what I got:
1. I can’t afford it.
2. Its too hard
3. I don’t think I could live up to it.
So basically what they’re saying is:
1. “I won’t make a decision to better myself, I’m afraid.”

2. “I’m not good enough.”
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
3. “I’m gonna fail.”
.
.
.
.
.
.
Whoa.
.
.
You see, the ones who take immediate action are the ones who fire, ready, aim..
And I’ve had a few who HAVE acted in this manner-and have succeeded only to be living a life they truly believed to be possible through a little adjusting and moving in a positive direction.
So, how do you “switch off” that little voice that really is a thundering roar that says:
“I won’t make a decision to better myself.”
(Which means if there’s no decision made, there’s no chance of ‘messing up’ which equals no action thus, no accountability).
“I’m not good enough.”
(Which means you do not believe you deserve to be do and have whatever you want).
“I’m gonna fail.”
(Which means there are limiting belief systems you carry and hold unto yourself).
How do you switch it off?
In 3 steps, allow me to share.
1. Take immediate action to hear yourself saying these things in your own head. Recognize it.
2. Once you do recognize it (because many of us go throughout our day breathing the negativity into our systems where it becomes no natural, it slips into the subconscious), then you can immediately reverse that thought process into something positive. Something like this:
• “I can’t afford it, Its too hard, I don’t think I could live up to it.”
The reversal:
• “I may not feel like I can do this, I’m only creating more attention to what I believe I can’t do. I am better than that. I can cut a few meals out per week and create the way to afford it. I will hold myself with an integrity higher than I’m used to because I want change, and it doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks, says or does. I deserve what I want.”
(The more energy placed on negativity, more energy of that nature you’ll get, and vice versa).
3. Remember that there is no “try.” Try still leaves a back door-a place to run out if you think you need it. “I’m gonna try it and see how I do.” There’s still doubt there.
Use this: you either do it don’t.

Do this every single time you hear the noise goin off in your head- you’ll be amazed at how many times you’ll be rerouting the thought process.
Those who are successful-in anything-know this and act on it.
I have mentioned the word “action” a few times here….and that is the key.
Act
Too much thinking paralyzes the brain.
Action creates more action.

What a fun last 3 weeks this has been! I haven’t had too many posts or communications with you simply because I probably “overdo” my thought process to the time I need to spend for studying…for my one class, (I italicize the word “one” because when I put parameters on social time with friends or loved ones, I get the same blank look and statement: “You’re freaking out over one class??,” and that’s a whole other story in itself!), and when I write I get completely engrossed, creating a fabulous distraction, resulting in lack of discipline for my one class. Ahem. Well, instead of explaining myself to this one class what’s-the-big-deal-blank-stare statement, I thought I’d simply share the last 3 weeks, briefly.
It’s important for you to realize that I, Annette the “trainer,” has the same issues, the same temptations, the same subconscious guilt, (WAY working on ridding of that!), the same cravings and poor habits than can make or break what my goals are. I love salt, there I said it! Hahahah! I don’t “add” salt to my food, I do one better–I choose salty foods!! Like what? Oh man:
What do these all have in common?? SALT!! Salt makes all these foods absolutely delicious doesn’t it? I’ll term these above (and trust me, there’s a go-zillion other items stacked with salt but it would take much longer than I have to list!), as SALT GRENADES! Did you know that the adult human being needs only 500 to 1000 milligrams of salt (sodium) per day? Here’s a great comparison: Corner Bakery Panini, the whole sandwich, has 2050 mg of sodium in it! Whoa!! And let me ask you this, did you only have the Panini? Oh no, there were chips, pickles and most likely a beverage, right? Oh oh–and is this the only meal you’re going to be eating that day? Sodium (salt), is a belly-inflator, that’s the simple.
So, I’ve been keeping my salt intake to a great minimum in this 10lb weight-loss effort, eating very clean, and very well meaning, the foods I’m choosing not only satisfy me, they’re flavored with simple alternatives other than salt disguised as “steak seasoning” etc., it gives me constant energy, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants–all of it.
The end of the six-week weight loss time frame ends Cinco de Mayo, and then is when I will weigh in for the 3rd and last time. The thing to remember is, after Cinco de Mayo, my lifestyle will remain in good health and great eating. It’s a challenge for me to understand the “once-n-doner’s” meaning, weight loss is attempted for just an event, like a wedding. So……….what happens after that–you blow up all over again? Seems to mess with the harmony of the mind ya know? Create the good vibrations–they’ll lead to more.
